Thank you, everyone, for the continued interest in this year's event. We wanted to take this opportunity to explain our decision to discontinue the sled dog races.
Back in 1979 the board organizing the first races chose the first weekend in February as the date they would set for the annual event. Surely, they could rely on the perfect weather for the dogs in the heart of winter. Fast forward 40 years and this is not the case.
For the last decade, the board has struggled to see the races run. For this reason, we have been evolving the weekend to include local programs that are not weather dependent.
Although it is sad to see the races end in Marmora, it is also heartwarming to see the growing interest in the Marmora's Got Talent Show, The BC Curling Challenge, and the Artisan Marketplace, all extremely well attended and celebrated events.
Thank you again for your interest and support, and we can't wait to see you again this year. Stay tuned as we are announcing more attractions before the end of the week!
Drawing on the adventurous tradition of sled dog racing, Marmora SnoFest celebrates a love of dogs, sport and community. With ever evolving weather conditions it is with great sadness that we have decided not to continue hosting racing events. However, SnoFest continues to be a destination for programming to entertain the whole family.
